YEAR 6 LEAVERS EVENTS 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

we are aware that we haven’t yet shared any plans with you regarding the Leavers Events for our Year 6 children. We are waiting for the updated Government guidance in line with the potential lifting of restrictions on 21st June 2021.
As soon as we have any information, we will let you know.

Kind Regards
Kim Huggett

WEEKLY NEWS FOR FAMILIES 28.5.2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

what a great end to this half term, to be back together again as a school family!
Our Pentecost Prayer Space has been visited by every child. Each year group have represented the feast of Pentecost in a different way. The children have thought carefully about the gift of the Holy Spirit and have reflected on the importance of this feast that celebrates the birthday of the church.

TRACK & TRACE OVER HALF TERM
Please use the office2@yaptonschool.org email to alert us to any new cases of COVID19. We will then follow the school procedures and alert the relevant staff and families as necessary.

TRAVELLING ABROAD
Whilst we understand that foreign travel restrictions have begun to be lifted, I would like to request that families think very carefully about the possible implications of travelling abroad at this time. We have worked really hard as a school over the last year to try to keep our school as COVID secure as possible. Some of our staff are not fully vaccinated yet or have even had their first vaccine. Any time that the children miss from school will not be authorised and could result in a fine. The school will request to see proof of travel dates in order to be clear about when the return to school can be expected within the guidance. As a school community, we have to be mindful of each other.

COLLECTING CHILDREN EARLY FROM SCHOOL OR LATE ARRIVAL TO SCHOOL
It is really important that the children are in school every day and for the full day. If you need to either collect your child early or bring them into school after registration, we will be asking to see documentation in relation to this. Just recently, too many children are either arriving late or being collected early. Thank you for your cooperation.

We have planned to hold our Country Dancing Festival on the last day of this term and would like the parents to attend – as long as any updated guidance from the government allows this to happen.

Have a lovely half term.  We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 8th June.

Take care

Weekly News for Families 21.05.2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank goodness the weather was kind to us for Outdoor Learning Day! All of the children in school spent some time completing their learning outside the classroom and there was a lovely buzz around the school.  There will be a short video celebrating some of the learning that took place available on the website soon.

Pentecost Prayer Space
The feast of Pentecost falls on Sunday 23rd May. To celebrate the birthday of the church, here in school, Mrs Cummings has organised our outdoor prayer space for all of the classes to spend some time in and reflect on how this impacts their life.  Please have a look when you are dropping off or collecting your children from school. It will be located at the front of school, next to the large oak tree.

An offer from Domino’s Pizza
Please find attached an offer form Domino’s Pizza company who are thanking schools and parents for their efforts during the recent lockdown.

Jigsaw Friendship Fiesta
As we near the end of this half term’s Jigsaw focus in school, we are planning to hold a celebration involving the whole school.  This will be outside on our playground on Monday afternoon during school time. Each class will have the opportunity to share their learning in a creative way. All of the work this half term has been centred around appreciation for the various relationships they have in their lives.

Kindness
In school we talk about being kind.  Unfortunately it has been brought to my attention that some of the adults are being unkind about other grown ups as they travel to and from school. Our children should not be hearing, or seeing, these negative interactions.

Half Term
Please remember that school breaks up for half term on Friday 28th May 2021. We return on Tuesday 8th June as Monday 7th June is an INSET day when school will be closed.

Although the weather continues to be blustery, we hope you have a fabulous weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Take care

Weekly News for Families – Friday 14th May 2021

Dear Parents & Carers,

It has been another busy week in school with lots of exciting report writing in Year 3-4 about the United Kingdom, Newspaper Reports in Early Years and Key Stage 1, a delivery of mud for our mud kitchen (thanks to the persuasive letters from Year 5 to Dandara Homes) and a wellbeing day for our Year 6 children with Chichester Festival Theatre! We hope you have heard all about this at home too.

Parking Safely
THE CAR PARK GATE AT SCHOOL WILL BE SHUT FROM 8:30AM UNTIL 3:30PM EACH DAY
Unfortunately we have had various vehicles, including taxis, come in to our school car park during drop off and collection times. Even though this week we put signs up, this has been ignored and it has left us with no option but to close the gates so that we can ensure everyone is safe at these times. Those classes that were using the car park entrance will now join the other classes through the single gate next to Early Years. Thank you for your co operation with this.
North End Road is a particularly busy road and we have a lollipop lady on duty to help see families safely across at the start and end of each day. It is worrying to see families crossing the road between parked cars and not using the lollipop crossing. Please make sure that everyone crosses in the correct place. Thank you
The zig zag lines and the double yellow lines adjacent to our school are there to protect families who are walking on the pavements. Please make sure you do not park on these.

PSHE (Personal Social and Health Education) and RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) consultation.
Last week, I attached information leaflets to the Weekly News regarding our school curriculum.  These documents are now also on our website on the PSHE curriculum page. If you have any questions or queries then please email us using the office2@yaptonschool.org email address.

Outdoor Classroom Day – Thursday 20th May 2021
Just a reminder that we will are all looking forward to taking our learning outside of the classroom on this day. Please make sure that your child is dressed in practical clothing (suitable for whatever the weather may be!). Classes are currently deciding how to spend their £56 which was kindly raised by, all of you, when you purchased tickets for the Rainbow Christmas Hampers. There has been talk of water trays and other exciting pieces of equipment.

Take care and have a wonderful weekend
We look forward to seeing you on Monday

WEEKLY NEWS FOR FAMILIES 7.5.2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

although we have only been in school for four days this week, we have still been very busy!
The Year 3/4 ‘UK Day’ this week saw a colourful array of red, white and blue ! There was food tasting, sports try-outs and some dancing experiences ranging from the ‘Notting Hill Carnival’ to ‘Maypole Dancing’. The children had a fabulous time and are eager to carry out their report writing.

THE FRONT OF OUR SCHOOL
Not only do we have a new path, we also have a new garden bank which has been cleared in front of our school office. Some of our parents have kindly cleared this bank and have planted flowers and shrubs to enhance the front of our school. Unfortunately some children whilst waiting with their parents have been running up and down the bank and damaging the plants. Please can children stand next to their family adult whilst waiting for their brothers or sisters and not damage our grounds. Thank you.

MAY PRAYER
As we begin the month of May, we look forward to warmer sunnier days and in particular this year, the road out of ‘lock-down’. I have attached our May prayer.

JIGSAW : PSHE- PERSONAL SOCIAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION AND RSE- RELATIONSHIPS AND SEX EDUCATION
At Yapton C of E Primary School, we allocate a lesson each week in order to teach PSHE knowledge and skills in a developmental and age-appropriate way. As you know, we use the Jigsaw programme, and the themes of the lessons are reinforced and enhanced in many ways. You may have heard the children talking about their ‘Morning Meeting’s’. This also includes whole school assemblies(when we are able to meet together), class worship, the Learning Charter and developing our relationships across the school. We aim to ‘live’ what is learnt and apply it to everyday situations in the school community. Class teachers deliver the weekly lessons to their own classes.
After half term, we will be using the Jigsaw sessions that focus on the subject of ‘Changing Me’. This is the part of the curriculum that focuses on Relationships and Sex Education.
To explain further, I have attached two parent guides for you to read. The first explores how Jigsaw approaches Relationships Education, Health Education and Sex Education in the Primary School. The second explains what Jigsaw teaches about LGBT+ relationships in the light of ‘including and valuing ALL children’.
If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact us on our office2@yaptonschool.org email and we will help.

OUTDOOR CLASSROOM DAY
We are planning to take part in ‘Outdoor Classroom Day’ on Thursday 20th May 2021. Please make sure that the children are dressed appropriately for the weather that day ( after the last few days I’m not sure if it will be sun-cream or woolly hats that will be needed !).

Have a lovely weekend.
Take Care

WEEKLY NEWS TO FAMILIES 30.4.21

Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had another great week here in school.

ENGLAND RUNS THE DAILY MILE
WOW ! Collectively as a school we achieved a 300 MILE run today. As the crow flies, this would mean that we ran to NEWCASTLE !! This is an amazing achievement. well done to everyone who took part. We certainly have some talented runners in our school. Mr Hughes is feeling very confident for our next years team to enter the Chichester Corporate Challenge Road Race !

PERSUASIVE WRITING YEAR 5
Today was the day that the Site Manager from Dandara Homes (the site next door to school) came to visit our children in Year 5. Over the last week they have been honing their skills of persuasion by writing letters to request more mud for our mud kitchen. The children chose the four most persuasive letters to present to Mr Betteridge. The letters read by Betsy, Rocco, Toby and  Michael did just the job and we have more mud due to arrive next week. Well done to all of the Y5 children for their outstanding letters.

PARKING
I have been asked by some frustrated parents to put out another reminder about parking when dropping off or collecting children from our school.
PLEASE DO NOT PARK ON THE ZIG-ZAG LINES OR ON THE PAVEMENTS.
Thank you.

SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PRIORITIES FOR THIS YEAR: SPRING 2021 – SPRING 2022
I have attached an overview of the priorities that we are working on as part of our school improvement journey. Every school plans how it is going to progress and develop and I thought it would be helpful for you to see what we have planned to work on. I hope that you find this useful.

BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND
Just a reminder that Monday 3rd May 2021 is a Bank Holiday. We return to school on Tuesday 4th May 2021.

Have a lovely weekend.
