VANDALISM AT SCHOOL LAST NIGHT

Dear Parents & Carers,
Unfortunately last night we had some intruders who have damaged school property and resources.
This is not the first time that teenagers have entered the school site and caused damage whilst the school is closed/out of school hours.
I have reported the incident to the police with clear information about the individuals involved.
I would like to ask that if any such behaviour is seen whilst we are not here in school, that it is reported to the police by either calling 101 or using their online form.
We work hard to create the best learning environment that we can for our children and it is really upsetting when are resources are intentionally damaged.
Thank you

Year 6 – Reminders for the last day of term

Dear Parents and Carers,
Here are a couple of reminders for tomorrow:
Year 6 Leavers’ Service
This will take place in St. Mary’s Church at 9:30am.  The children will walk down to the church to arrive at about 9:25am.  It would be lovely if the parents, carers and other family members who are attending to line the path leading up to the church forming a ‘guard of honour’ for the children to walk through.  You are more than welcome to find somewhere to sit in the church before the children arrive, but if you could start to make the lines a few minutes before this will be much appreciated.  Of course, as the children walk past, please give them a huge welcome!
Shirt Signing
Please make sure your child brings in an extra white school shirt or t-shirt for the traditional shirt signing.  A couple of Sharpie pens will be needed as well.
We are all looking forward to celebrating the end of a journey and the beginning of a new ones with the Year 6 children.
Take care

Deputy Headteacher

UNIFORM FOR HOT WEATHER NEXT WEEK

Dear Parents and Carers,
the relaxed uniform code of P.E kit and/or summer school dresses, school shorts and white T-shirts will continue next week whilst the weather is so warm.
Y6 will need to wear their school shorts and T shirts and/or summer dresses on Thursday for their Leavers service.

Forest School

Dear Parents and Carers,
The children in Bodiam and Hastings Classes have each got their final Forest School session next week.
Bodiam Class is on Monday 18th July and Hastings Class is on Tuesday 19th July.
Although there is the weather warning, it will be a far more comfortable temperature within our school forest area.  The children will still need to bring a sun hat and water bottle to school.  Please also ensure sun cream has been applied before coming to school.
Thank you

Deputy Headteacher

WEEKLY NEWS FOR FAMILIES 15.7.2022

Dear Parents and Carers,
the children really have been amazing this week here in school. The hot weather has not held back their enthusiasm for their learning. The Y6 children put on a spectacular performance of ‘School Daze’ yesterday. Well done to all of our Y6 children for their superb contributions to an amazing production.

WEATHER WARNING
There is a severe weather warning for ‘extreme heat’ on Monday and Tuesday. We have clear guidance from the DFE as to how to manage this in school. At this point in time school will remain open on Monday and Tuesday.
ALL CHILDREN WILL NEED A SUN HAT AND A WATER BOTTLE  –  SUN CREAM MUST BE APPLIED BEFORE SCHOOL.
ALL STAFF WILL ENSURE THAT THE CHILDREN KEEP HYDRATED DURING THE DAY AND WILL UNDERSTAND THE NEED FOR POSSIBLE EXTRA TOILET VISITS.
OUTDOOR P.E. WILL NOT HAPPEN ON THESE TWO DAYS IF THE WEATHER IS EXTREMELY HOT.
It may be that we will keep the children inside on these two days if we feel that this is necessary.
I have been informed that Mrs Wellburn, our School Crossing Patrol Officer, has been instructed to stand down for both those days. Please take extra care crossing North End Road on Monday and Tuesday. If your child walks by themselves please ensure that you either accompany them or inform them that there will be no supervision whilst crossing the road on these days.

KIT LISTS
Please find attached the Kit Lists for both the Y3/Y4 sleepover trip to the Novium Museum and the Y5/Y6 residential trip to the Adur Outdoor Activities Centre.
The dates for the Novium Museum are contained within the Kit List.
Please make sure all payments have been made.
The medical forms will be sent out next week.

HOME & SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP
Following on from our meetings last week, we wanted to make sure that every family had been given the chance to contribute to this.
The focus is ‘Home & School – working together in the best way to support the children’s learning’.
Please email  office2@yaptonschool.org  with your thoughts. We will then add your responses to the information from both the children in our Community Circles and families at the meetings last week. Following this, we will create our ‘Home-School Partnership’ and share it with you.

SCHOOL DISCOS ON THURSDAY 21ST JULY
We are really looking forward to our discos. All children will need to bring their water bottles with them to ensure that they keep hydrated.

Have a fabulous sunny weekend.
Take care
Kim Huggett

HOT WEATHER UNIFORM CLARIFICATION

Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to explain that the suggestion of wearing P.E. kits for this week, was to help the children to be as cool as possible in this hot weather.
It may be that you would prefer to alternate between P.E. tops and shorts and/or school polo T- shirts and P.E. shorts or normal uniform (school shorts/summer dresses).
I apologise for any confusion that this may have caused.

HOT WEATHER ARRANGEMENTS AND SPORTS DAY

Dear Parents and Carers,
whilst it is amazing to have such sunny weather, it would have been preferable for this weather to start when we begin our school holidays!
We have made the decision to cancel Sports Day on Friday.
We have spent time trying to arrange alternative ways of running the day, but it would compromise the safety of both the children and their families.
The hot weather is set to be with us right until the end of term on Thursday 21st July.
For the remainder of this week, please can the children come to school in their P.E. kits so that they are in their P.E. shorts and T-shirt.
This will be the school uniform for the rest of this week. We will update you on Friday with regards to next week.
Staff have been encouraged to also wear appropriate clothing for the weather.
The children must have sun hats and water-bottles in school.
Sun-cream must be applied before school.
I realise that the cancellation of Sports Day is disappointing.
Thank you for your understanding.
Take care
Kim H
