French has been chosen as our modern foreign language in Key Stage Two. Each French lesson uses a variety of techniques to encourage the children to have an active engagement with French and to develop a positive approach to languages. Yapton’s French curriculum is in line with the new National Curriculum and is adapted to each class topic to ensure children learn French in a meaningful context.

Children are given opportunities to listen to and perform traditional songs and to join in with story-telling. Throughout Key Stage 2, children are given opportunities to engage in short conversations and role-plays (Year 5-6).

Whenever possible, children are involved in French events, such as the French Breakfast in Year 4,  which enables the children to apply their knowledge and skills.
