Learning Outside The Classroom

LEARNING OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM CURRICULUM INTENT

At Yapton C. of E. Primary School we have a strong ethos for outdoor learning and believe that it can be used in many cross curricular areas to strengthen and deepen pupils understanding and knowledge and create real life experiences for pupils. Through outdoor learning pupils will become confident, resilient and determined learners. The children are exposed to natural environments within our school grounds and beyond enabling them to gain understanding and respect for the natural world and all that lives within it.  We want children to have the opportunity to be able to explore and learn outside throughout the year, experiencing the seasons and changing nature around them. We fully engage with the planned Outdoor Learning Days in November and May each year. All outdoor learning is planned around the curriculum currently being studied, which gives depth, enrichment and an outdoor perspective for our children. We recognise that many of our children do not get the equal opportunities outside school to experience the outdoors and nature. This is why outdoor learning is such an important part of our curriculum.
