PSHE CURRICULUM INTENT

At Yapton C. of E. Primary School we believe that to live life in all its fullness we have an open door to learning where…

At Yapton C. of E. Primary School, we value PSHE as one way to support children’s development as human beings, to enable them to understand and respect who they are, to empower them with a voice and to equip them for life and learning. We use Jigsaw to teach Personal Social, Health Education as this is a whole-school approach to underpin children’s development as people and because we believe that this also supports their learning capacity.

The Jigsaw Programme offer us a comprehensive, carefully thought-through Scheme of Work which brings consistency and progression to our children’s learning in this vital curriculum area. The experiences we offer our children are designed to ensure that they are engaging, enriching and empowering.  We work and play together as a school family, holding on to the power of the Christian story in our daily lives and embracing our four core values of Community, Dignity, Hope and Wisdom.

PSHE Education (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) is a planned programme of learning through which children and young people acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to successfully manage their lives – now and in the future.  As part of a whole-school approach, PSHE Education develops the qualities and attributes pupils need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society.

According to the National Curriculum, every school needs to have a broad and balanced curriculum that:

• promotes the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school;
• prepares pupils at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life;
• promotes British values.
