Dear Parents and Carers,
‘Everywhere around me…I can see the hand of God.’
We began our week by thinking about ‘God’s creative world’.
Our visitor Rosemarie, from the Yapton Cottage Gardeners group, came to talk to us about the work of this group within the village.
Rosemarie encouraged the children to enter an exhibit at the Yapton Summer Show in August.
We reflected on the wonder of the outdoors as we sang our hymn together.
Y3/Y4 GEOGRAPHY DAY
We had an amazing day on Wednesday discovering geographical features about the local area. We completed ‘map work’ , went for a walk along the canal tow path and discovered what life was like on the canal. Once we had walked along the tow path, we stopped to begin a ‘field sketch’ which was completed back in school. Whilst in school, the children carried out team building games in and around the forest that involved water travel. The children were excited all day and talked about it being an amazing adventure for them. Thank you to all of the family members who supported us to make this happen. We hope that you enjoyed looking at the field-work at ‘Time to Shine’ today.
YAPTON STARS
This really has been the most incredible week here at school!
On Tuesday our Y4/Y5 Girls Football Team competed in the West Sussex West Schools Partnership ‘Women’s World Cup Football Festival.’ The girls talked to the school today about the highs and lows of the competition. They found some of the games challenging but felt supported as a team together. They were particularly pleased with a ‘clean sheet’ in one of the later games. The girls were placed 5th out of 8 teams. We are so proud of them. Thank you to Lilyana, Bethany, Alexus, Lainee-Rae, Rosie, Maddie, Indi, Lilli, Mia and Brooke for being such amazing ambassadors for our school.
On Wednesday our Y6 production of ‘I’m an 11 year old…Get me out of here!’ was finally revealed. The children presented an amazing show and raised the roof with their singing. Thank you to those family members who took part in one of the trials!!
Today, our ‘Rock-Stars’ performed in their bands at our ‘Rock steady’ gig. Once again the children smashed it and demonstrated such talent. A huge well done to the following bands:
Blue Rock n Rollers – Arlo, Isla, Betty, Peyton, Charlie, Flynn, Jessica, Julia and Evangeline.
Def Leopards – Alex T, Alex M, Freddie S & Dexter.
Space Invaders – Lilli, Theo, Jacob, Alfie, Bani & Harley-Jay.
Photographic Memory – Molly, Oliver E, Max, Lucas, Teja, Hinson & Evie.
ATTAINMENT REPORTS
You will have received your child’s Attainment Report today and any Statutory Test Results.
The Attainment Report is based on the tests and quizzes that the children took part in during ‘Test Your Knowledge Week.’ This is so that the children become used to ‘testing’ their knowledge and developing an inquisitive mind. It enables teachers to look at any trends that may occur and adapt their teaching if necessary, by putting in interventions or new challenges. You will have the opportunity at next week’s Parent & Teacher Meetings to discuss this data. The meetings planned for Portchester & Southsea class will still go ahead.
STAFFING NEWS
We are going to be saying good-bye to Mrs Farrell at the end of term. She is going to be the School Business Manager at Bosham Primary School. This is a role that she has a lot of experience in and will be such an asset to her new school. We are very excited for her, but will miss her.
A message from Mrs Farrell…’Although I’m very excited to be moving to a new school in September, I will miss all of the parents, children and staff at Yapton School who have made me feel part of a very special family. I will take away from Yapton School some very special memories. Thank you all for looking after me.’
Mrs Browning will be looking after Attendance when we return to school in September.
