WEEKLY NEWS FOR FAMILIES 7.5.2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

although we have only been in school for four days this week, we have still been very busy!
The Year 3/4 ‘UK Day’ this week saw a colourful array of red, white and blue ! There was food tasting, sports try-outs and some dancing experiences ranging from the ‘Notting Hill Carnival’ to ‘Maypole Dancing’. The children had a fabulous time and are eager to carry out their report writing.

THE FRONT OF OUR SCHOOL
Not only do we have a new path, we also have a new garden bank which has been cleared in front of our school office. Some of our parents have kindly cleared this bank and have planted flowers and shrubs to enhance the front of our school. Unfortunately some children whilst waiting with their parents have been running up and down the bank and damaging the plants. Please can children stand next to their family adult whilst waiting for their brothers or sisters and not damage our grounds. Thank you.

MAY PRAYER
As we begin the month of May, we look forward to warmer sunnier days and in particular this year, the road out of ‘lock-down’. I have attached our May prayer.

JIGSAW : PSHE- PERSONAL SOCIAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION AND RSE- RELATIONSHIPS AND SEX EDUCATION
At Yapton C of E Primary School, we allocate a lesson each week in order to teach PSHE knowledge and skills in a developmental and age-appropriate way. As you know, we use the Jigsaw programme, and the themes of the lessons are reinforced and enhanced in many ways. You may have heard the children talking about their ‘Morning Meeting’s’. This also includes whole school assemblies(when we are able to meet together), class worship, the Learning Charter and developing our relationships across the school. We aim to ‘live’ what is learnt and apply it to everyday situations in the school community. Class teachers deliver the weekly lessons to their own classes.
After half term, we will be using the Jigsaw sessions that focus on the subject of ‘Changing Me’. This is the part of the curriculum that focuses on Relationships and Sex Education.
To explain further, I have attached two parent guides for you to read. The first explores how Jigsaw approaches Relationships Education, Health Education and Sex Education in the Primary School. The second explains what Jigsaw teaches about LGBT+ relationships in the light of ‘including and valuing ALL children’.
If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact us on our office2@yaptonschool.org email and we will help.

OUTDOOR CLASSROOM DAY
We are planning to take part in ‘Outdoor Classroom Day’ on Thursday 20th May 2021. Please make sure that the children are dressed appropriately for the weather that day ( after the last few days I’m not sure if it will be sun-cream or woolly hats that will be needed !).

Have a lovely weekend.
Take Care
Kim Huggett
