Kim Huggett – Headteacher
After completing my teacher training degree in Liverpool I moved back home to West Sussex.
I have been teaching and leading in a variety of schools in Bognor Regis, Chichester, Littlehampton and Worthing before moving to Yapton C. of E. Primary School in January 2019.
At home I am kept busy with a husband, two sons and 3 dogs! We like to be outside and enjoying the fresh air. Most weekends involve dog walking and spectating on a variety of sporting touch lines as a mum of one very sporty son! Two of our dogs are working dogs so they require extra training ready for the winter season when my husband and son take them out to work. I have my own rescue dog who I nursed back to health when she came to live with us at 6 weeks old. Her name is Amber and I keep a photo of her in my office at School.
Ben Read - Chair of Governors
I am a Co-opted Governor here at Yapton and have been a Governor since 2013. I have had and have varied roles within education and business which assists with the Governance of the school.
It is important that the school has a holistic approach for its children and it is inclusive to all. It is always a delight to see the children develop through the school, achieving their potential and being prepared for their transition to secondary education.
My son is currently at the school and my other two children have also been pupils.
Sue Emery – Co-opted Governor
Having just completed a term of office as a Co-Opted governor at a rural village school, I am excited to be able to join the governing body at this important stage in Yapton School’s development. I firmly believe that every child deserves the best primary experience possible!
I retired from teaching six years ago but my passion for education has remained with me. I now work as an exam invigilator at the local academy and Chichester College.
Two of my grandchildren attend Yapton and so my long association with the school continues as does my love of tap and musical theatre dance.

Richard Hanks - Co-Opted Governor
Hello, I am an Assistant Principal at The Littlehampton Academy and I lead on the achievement and progress of Key Stage 4, whole academy attendance and co-curricular provision. I am Physical Education teacher with a passion for education and learning!
I have been at TLA for 17 years since I qualified in 2004, and have held various curriculum and pastoral positions. During my career at TLA, I have seen the academy fall in to special measures and recently rise from that to achieve ‘good’; in all areas, in our most recent inspection in March 2022. I have experienced a number of section 8 and 5 inspections, so I am well versed in the process! I am looking forward to supporting the leadership team, teachers, parents; and most importantly the students, in ensuring they get to go to a ‘good’ school – Every child deserves too!
I have two children that currently attend Yapton school. One in year 6, and one in year 2. I am a keen sportsman and enjoy refereeing semi-professional men’s rugby on Saturdays. Any spare time at weekends is often spent bike riding, at the beach or enjoying various local activities with my children.
Kelly Taylor – Parent Governor
I became a parent governor in Oct 2022. I have 2 children currently at the school with another joining next year. I have a special interest in the SEN side of schooling, having qualifications in Autism, Children’s mental health and Sensory processing. I’m excited to be a part of the school and watch it grow from strength to strength.
Rev Richard Hayes – Foundation Governor
I have been Rector of the benefice of Clymping, Yapton and Ford since 2002 and I have been involved in primary schools for 30 years, both as a governor and in leading worship – something I do at Yapton School on a weekly basis.
