At Yapton C of E Primary School, we believe that our children are entitled to a language-rich English curriculum that enables them to appreciate the power of the spoken and written word. A high-quality education in English teaches children the art of speaking and listening, how to write and communicate ideas coherently for different purposes and how to read fluently with good understanding.

We aim to develop articulate speakers, inspired writers and avid readers who can apply their knowledge of English and adapt to an ever-changing world. We believe that developing our children’s love and use of these skills through imaginative and purposeful learning will provide a key resource for the rest of their lives. We endeavour to ensure all pupils have fluency and comprehension in reading and writing to enable them to achieve in all areas of the National Curriculum. Through reading and literature in particular, children have a chance to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually.

With English at the heart of our curriculum, our aim is that children leave our school with a wide range of happy memories of reading and writing, which are formed through exciting enrichment activities that stretch beyond the classroom.
