WEEKLY NEWS FOR FAMILIES – 07.06.2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

The final half term of this academic year started with excited children being hooked into their new topics: the Early Years children compared lots of different pairs of shoes they brought in (let’s hope they managed to take the same pairs back home!); the children in Years 1 and 2 fought and battled with seagulls to save the Lighthouse Keeper’s lunch; the disco music and lights were on as the Year 3 and 4 children learnt some moves to some classic 1980s tunes; and the children in Years 5 and 6 enjoyed a taste of the Caribbean. It was lovely to see everyone refreshed after the half term break and fully engaged in their learning, In the bible it says, ‘The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out.’ Proverbs 18:15

Prayer for June

Thank you to Garrett and Evan B for their contributions and ideas for our new school prayer for the months of June. Both of them highlighted the importance of our school THINKvalues – especially treating everyone with KINDNESS

. The prayer is attached for you to read and share at home if you would like to.

The Big Little Sing

The children in Key Stage 1 enjoyed The Little Big Sing on Thursday morning. They were joined by children from Walberton and Binsted CE Primary School and had a great time learning and performing songs with each other. Here are some reflections of the morning from the children:

  • Learning new songs was fun

  • We played a pretend bass and drum kit

  • Performing our song, ‘Let’s Go, Fly A Kite’ was great

    Our PSHE and RSHE learning

As you know, our PSHE is driven by a scheme called JIGSAW. Every half term, the learning follows the same jigsaw puzzle (theme). During this half term, the children will be focusing on the jigsaw puzzle called Changing Me. This is linked to the Relationships, Sex and Health Education part of the curriculum. Attached is a letter which outlines the pieces of the learning puzzle for each year group, along with a Guide for Parents and Carers.

    Emotional Coaching Workshop

A free five-session course for any parents who would like some guidance and ideas about how best to support their children’s emotional well-being will start here at school on Friday 14th June from 1:30pm-3pm. The following sessions will ruin on the subsequent Fridays. The course is particularly suitable for those parents whose children experience fears and worries. Attached are further details of the course. If you would like to attend, please contact the school using office2@yaptonschool.org email address.

    Quadkids Athletics

Well done to Indi, Betsie, Olivia, Cierra, Archie, Elliot, Kai, Oscar and Evan who were our Year 5 and 6 athletes representing our school at a Quadkids Athletics Competition at The Arena in Bognor Regis this afternoon. They all had a great time supporting and encouraging each other, as well as showing some lovely sporting behaviour towards the other schools taking part. We will find out the results of the competition next week.

    Have a lovely weekend.

    Take care
