Dear Parents and Carers,
First of all, on behalf of the school, I would like to say a massive THANK YOU to all the wonderful donations for the Summer Holiday Hamper Raffle that have come into school today. Your generosity is very much appreciated. Mrs Sothcott (Olivia and Robin’s Mum) could do with some help on Monday morning to make up the hampers. If you are able to volunteer some time after the school drop off please send an email to the office2@yaptonschool.org email address. Raffle tickets will go on sale before and after school from Tuesday 16th July
Thankfulness
The theme of thankfulness and gratitude was explored in our whole school collective worship on Monday. After thinking about 5 things that they were grateful for (an amazing 20 were shared at the front of the hall!), the children were challenged to think about what pictures of a bottle of champagne, a carrot and some tissues had in common. A range of suggestions were given. Through watching a video of the bible story from Luke’s Gospel (17: 11-19)of The Thankful Leper (which can be found here) the children were able to realise that there are always reasons to be thankful, through the good times, the bad times and the normal day to day times as well. This closing prayer was used: Dear God,
We thank you for all that’s good in our lives.
We thank you especially for what we remember quietly in our hearts now.
Help us to know that you are with us during ordinary days, good days and bad days.

Year 3 and 4 Plant Sale
Another reason for gratitude is as we say THANK YOU to all of you who bought some plants in the Year 3 and 4 Plant Sale. At the end of yesterday afternoon, a brilliant £118
had been raised for The Aldingbourne Trust. Well done to all those green-fingered Year 3 and 4 children!
The School-O-Vision Sing Contest
Our Year 6 children let their talents shine brightly as they gave three fantastic performances of their production of The School-O-Vision Song Contest this week. After an inspiring performance to the school on Wednesday afternoon, two even more brilliant performances were enjoyed by their families yesterday afternoon and evening. Our school vision of living life in all its fullness
was clearly demonstrated by everyone who was involved, whatever role or part they had to play.
HAF Funded Summer Holiday Sports Camp
JC Sports will once again be running a Sports Camp during the holiday period. The dates are as follows:
Monday 29th July – Thursday 1st August
Monday 5th August – Thursday 8th August
Monday 12th August – Thursday 15th August
Monday 19th August – Thursday 22nd August

Scooter Safety
There have been several recent concerns raised by local residents about how some children who either ride their bikes or use their scooter to get to and from school are not being safe, especially when travelling along Church Lane – especially reaching the blind corner by St. Mary’s Church. This is another reminder to make sure your children keep themselves safe.
Please can we also make sure we are taking care whilst the path on North End Road continues to be improved.
End of Year Attainment Reports and Parent-Teacher Meetings
Thank you to those of you who have gone onto ParentMail and made your appointment for next week’s Parent-Teacher Meetings. There are still spaces available for those who need to make the booking.
The children have brought home their End of Year Attainment Reports this afternoon. The format of these are the same as those that were sent out in the Autumn Term. However we have adapted the wording referring to the children’s attainment in Reading, Writing and Mathematics:
Emerging – this means your child’s attainment is significantly below age-related expectations (appropriate additional support is in place to address the child’s specific needs)
Working towards ARE – this means your child’s attainment is slightly below age-related expectations (targeted interventions will be in place to address the gaps in the children’s knowledge and attainment)
Working at expected ARE – this means your child’s attainment is in-line with age-related expectations
Working above ARE – this means your child’s attainment is higher than age-related expectations and strategies will be used to ensure this continues)
Working at greater depth – this means your child’s attainment is significantly above age-related expectations, showing a particular flair in their learning
