Dear Parents and Carers,
Now that the summer holidays have begun, may I first thank everyone who brought in the cards and gifts for the staff at the end of term. Your kindness and generosity is very much appreciated.

Last week, we held our end of term Rock Steady Gig. It was great to see so many of the perform with high levels of confidence and skill. Well done to the bands:

I Don’t Know: Poppy C, Dexter, Alex M, Alfie, Nihal, Spencer, Jamie and Ethan S
The Rockers Of The Day And Night: Luca, Emilia G, Betty, Alex P, Jessica, Bonnie, Benny and Liam
Our School Uniform – Acceptable Footwear
After some careful thought, it has been decided to adapt our guidelines in terms of what the children should wear on their feet when they come to school. Rather than the children wearing school shoes and having a pair of trainers for P.E. and the Daily Mile, the children may wear trainers all week. However, these must be a plain black sports-style pair of trainers. Attached is a clear guide of the expectations. We hope this will ease the burden of what to buy over the summer holidays and into the future as the children’s feet continue to grow.
Water Bottles
This may sound a bit of a strange request, but please can you ensure your child brings a smaller sized water bottle to school in September. Water bottles and portable ‘cups’ seem to be getting larger and larger! These large water bottles do not fit into our water dispensers which means a lot of water doesn’t actually go into the bottle, but instead drips down onto the floor – either making the hard surfaces very slippery or the carpeted areas soggy, stained and eventually mouldy.
Summer Term Reading Challenge
Mrs Cummings, our Leader of English, has created a Summer Holiday Reading Challenge to keep everyone eyes, brains and imaginations busy. I wonder how many of the challenges from the attached list will be successfully completed. Certificates and prizes are on offer…! Please use the office2@yaptonschool.org email address to send in any photos of your children’s reading antics over the summer break.
Learning Hooks For The Autumn Term
When the children return to school in September, the first couple of days will be have a strong P.S.H.E. theme, enabling everyone to really get to know each other as well as agreeing and establishing clear routines and expectations. Attached are the Learning Hooks for the first full week of the new school year for our classes in Key Stages 1 and 2. Children in the EYFS classes will be sent their hook once their Baseline Assessments have been completed in the first couple of weeks.
On behalf of the whole school team, may I wish everyone a very happy, safe and relaxing summer term break. We are all looking forward to seeing everyone refreshed on Thursday 4th September. The children will need to be in full school uniform for the first two days. Details of when P.E. kits will need to be worn will be sent out at the beginning of term. All the key dates for the Autumn term will also be sent out at the same time. As a reminder, the term dates for the whole academic year are attached.
Take care
Kim Huggett
