Dear Parents and Carers,
Our first week back after the half term break began with lots of excited children enjoying their Hook Days which kicked of their new learning journeys. Classrooms were full of colour, drama, robots and Victoria sponges to name just a few highlights.
Saintly Actions
On Tuesday, Reverend Richard led our Whole School Collective Worship. He talked to the children about the significance of All Saints’ Day. The children thought about how people may become a Saint. They suggested that they had left good Christian lives. The children were challenged to consider what ‘nice things’ they could do which could be seen as ‘Saintly actions.’ During this time, our new November prayer was also shared with the children. A copy of the prayer has been attached for you to share at home, if you would like to do so. Thank you for all of the ideas from Ruben, Alex, Naira, Eira, Violette, Aria, Evie, Thea, Austin, Liam, Oliver, Lily-May, Phoebe, Daisy, Garrett, Maisie, Jenson, Benji, Ruby, Andreas, Evan, Bonnie, Skylar, Julia and Millie – this could be a record number of children who contributed their ideas towards our monthly prayer!
Year 3 and 4 Girls Football
Tuesday was a busy day for some of Year 3 and 4 girls who represented the school at the Bognor Area Girls’ Football Tournament at the Arena Sports Centre. Millie, Emilia, Abigail, Bonnie, Isla, Nyla-Rae, Naira and Isla all played brilliantly working together as a team winning 3 of their 5 matches and finishing in 3rd place.
Sing950
Yesterday, our Year 5 children represented the school at a completely different event. They spent the afternoon at Chichester Cathedral where they joined with about 300 other children from local schools to take part in Sing950 – a special musical celebration of the 950th anniversary of Chichester Cathedral. Over the past few weeks they have been working incredibly hard with Miss Gould to learn some quite challenging songs – two of which were sung in Latin! The whole afternoon was such a enjoyable event. Here are some reflections from the children who took part:
The cathedral is huge!
I enjoyed singing with lots of other children.
My favourite song was ‘Great Is He’ because it brings happiness and joy.
It was the first time I had been to to cathedral.
I’ve learned I need to raise my eyebrows to help me sing higher notes.
The singing sounded fabulous!
Thank you to Miss Gould who has given the children the confidence to take part in this unique occasion.
Armistice Day
Thank you for all the donations that have come in for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. The items will be available on Monday morning as well. Thank you also for all the plastic bottles that have come in. Our poppy display will be put together in preparation for Tuesday 11th November, where the school will come together for a special Remembrance Collective Worship. I expect lots of our children will be taking part in special Remembrance Parades with their different Scouting and Guiding groups on Sunday. If these children would like to wear their uniforms on Tuesday, they are more than welcome to as well.
Nits
We have become aware of a couple of cases of Nits in children’s hair. Please can you check your child’s hair over the weekend and apply any treatment that is needed. They are an unfortunate rare occurrence but one way to really help avoid cases is by following the school policy ensuring hair that is over shoulder-length is tied back. Thank you for your help with this.
World Kindness Day
This year’s World Kindness Day is on Thursday 13th November. Everyone is invited to wear something yellow on this day, instead of school uniform. The theme iof kindness will be explored during next week.
Girls’ Cricket
Attached is a leaflet detailing some new coaching sessions for girls’ cricket at Arun Leisure Centre led by Middleton Cricket Club.
Have a lovely weekend.
Take care
