Dear Parents and Carers,
Firstly, well done to everyone who took part in this week’s Inter-School Cross-Country Event at Bishop Luffa Secondary School. It was very muddy, but all the children did brilliantly getting round the long course.
The next event our Running Team are preparing for is the Chichester Corporate Challenge. This is a series of three races. The dates for these races are Wednesday 25th February, Wednesday 11th March and Wednesday 25th March. The timings for the races are as follows:
- 6:30pm Year 5 girls
- 6:38pm Year 5 boys
- 6:46pm Year 6 girls
- 6:53pm Year 6 boys
Each race is 1,400 metres long (just over half the length of the cross-country run) around a two-lap course mainly around the pedestrianised areas of Chichester. There is a very small section of the course which is on a road – this will be closed to traffic. The whole of the course will be very well marshalled as well.
We will need to meet by Between The Lines and Robert Dyas in North Street at 6:00pm. Please remember there are evening charges in the Chichester car parks.
The children will need to wear their school P.E. kits including an appropriate pair of trainers to run in. It will probably be quite cold, so additional layers like a tracksuit and coat will be needed before and after the the race. A drink for after the race would be a good idea as well.
There are going to be lots of other children and families at these races, so please make sure your child stays with you when we meet.
The children have been coming to Running Club after school on Thursdays with lots of dedication and enthusiasm which has been great – especially on the colder and darker afternoons! The children have been encouraged to do their best in the 3 races by trying to improve their time each time. The children are building up their race stamina, with the aim of being able to run at a consistent pace (not a sprint – a steady jog) for 7 or 8 minutes.
The school is going to use some its Sports Premium Funding to pay for the race entries. Therefore, we will expect a full commitment to all of the races. There is a consent form to fill in on ParentMail. As we expect parents or carers to remain at the event, medial needs will not be collected. However, the various permissions regarding photos, etc will need to be completed. Please can this form be completed by Wednesday 11th February. We will have at least one school first aider to be with us, but the St. John Ambulance will also be there. We would ask if if your child has an asthma inhaler, they bring one from home (just in case).
The whole event is a brilliant occasion and I am really looking forward to seeing children from our school taking part.
If you have any other questions or concerns about the Chichester Corporate Challenge, please ask me.
Kind regards
Mr Joe Coyle
