Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you to those of you who were able to come along to either of the recent information meetings about the new residential visit to Christian Youth Enterprises (CYE) for our Year 6 children in October 2026. I hope you found them informative and useful. For those of you who were not able to come, I can always go through with you what was detailed at a suitable time. A PowerPoint containing the key information shared in the meeting has been attached to this letter. Further information can also be found on the CYE website, which you can find by clicking here
. This afternoon, your child will bring home a copy of the CYE Parents’ Information Pack which provides all the information about the residential.
CYE is an amazing local organisation who has delivered a range of outdoor events, including very popular and competitively and reasonably priced school residential visits for over 30 years. They are based within Chichester Harbour, near the village of Chidham in West Sussex.
This amazing residential visit, the dates of which are Monday 5th – Wednesday 7th October 2026, will provide the children with opportunities to be challenged, engaged and inspired through a range of water-based and land-based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities such as kayaking, long-boating, tunneling and using teamwork skills to complete other challenges such as the assault course. All the activities are led by the CYE staff who are fully trained, DBS checked, first-aid trained and also really enjoy working with children.
The children will enjoy ‘home-cooked’ food throughout the stay. All dietary requirements (not preferences) will be catered for. The children will also enjoy sleeping in 4-berth en-suite cabins onboard the CYE ship called ‘Resolute.’ This ship is permanently and securely attached to the land but rises and falls with the incoming and outgoing tides.
The cost per child for the fully inclusive 2-night stay at CYE is £252. The breakdown of this is as follows:
All of the activities led by fully qualified, DBS checked and first-aid trained staff
£162
Board and lodging
£90
To keep the costs as low as possible, we will not use a coach to travel to and from the CYE. Instead, we will ask parents to take their children to CYE after the school drop-off time and then pick up at the end of the stay before the end of the school day so that any other pick-ups from school can happen.
Parents/Carers are being asked to make a voluntary contribution of all or part of this amount.
Parent/Carers are not obliged to make a contribution, but it is highly probable that, if sufficient monies are not received, the visit will have to be cancelled and any deposits paid will not be returned.
To secure a place for your child, we ask for a non-returnable deposit of £30 to be paid by Friday 4th July 2025. The outstanding balance is to be paid before the end of the summer term 2025. You are most welcome to pay this in full or in instalments if more convenient. The suggested payment plan is as follows:
July 2025
September 2025
October 2025
January 2026
March 2026
May 2026
£30 Non refundable deposit

Payments will need to be made through ParentMail. The payment window opens today and will remain open until Friday 4th July.
If a family is in receipt of specific benefits which means you child is entitled to Free School Meals, the school is obliged by law to waive the charge for board and lodging – leaving a request for contributions to cover the revised cost of £162. There benefits were listed at the meetings and are set out in the school’s Charging Policy as follows:
* Universal Credit in prescribed circumstances
Income support
Income-based-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (IBJSA)
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
Child Tax Credit, (provided that the parent is not entitled to Working Tax Credit and their gross annual Income, assessed by HMRC does not exceed £16,190)
Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
Working Tax Credit run-on for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
As an organisation, CYE wants everyone to be able to go to CYE events (such as their school residential visits) and so their Bursary Fund offers financial help for those who cannot otherwise afford to come. Applications are made directly to CYE. Successful applications to this fund usually offer up to 40% of the event cost. Further details of this offer can be found here
.
Parents/Carers are asked to make a voluntary contribution towards all or part of the total amount that is appropriate to their situation. As mentioned earlier in this letter, if insufficient monies are received, the booking for the residential trip will have to be cancelled and paid deposits will not be refunded.
Although it seems a very long way off, I am already really excited about children form our school enjoying the CYE experience.
Further details about the trip, such as what to pack, will be sent out at a later date. However, if you have any questions or queries about the residential visit, please do not hesitate to come and talk to myself or Mrs Huggett as soon as possible.
Kind regards
Chris Hughes
