PC SIBUN MEETING WITH YEAR 6 CHILDREN TODAY

Dear Parents and Carers,

following my communication yesterday, I would like to share with you that PC Dan Sibun met with the Year 6 children today regarding the issues with WhatsApp.

He explained that the children had to be responsible for their actions in these groups.

He explained that in our country, children aged 10 and over are criminally responsible. This means that they can be arrested, charged and tried in court if they commit a crime.

PC Sibun talked to the children about how dangerous the irresponsible use of WhatsApp could be. He referenced malicious communication, sharing of inappropriate images and using this platform to encourage others to break school rules- all of which have been reported to school over the last few weeks and of which the Safeguarding Team here at school have seen. He identified the consequences of these actions.

At school, we are treating these issues very seriously and are following the correct protocols and procedures, which in this instance has involved working with the Police.

Please check your child’s phone on a regular basis and report any concerns to our Safeguarding Team – dsl@yaptonschool.org.

The children have been encouraged by PC Sibun to go to their home grown ups and their ‘Go 2 Grown Ups ‘ if they receive something that either breaks school rules or is malicious or inappropriate.

By working together we can keep the children safe.

Take care

Kim Huggett
