Weekly News For Families – 01.05.2025

Dear Parents ,

As the temperature has continued to rise this week, there have been so many opportunities to celebrate many of the children of Yapton C. of E. Primary School rising to the challenge of being the best versions of themselves in line with our school vision of living life it all its fullness (John 10:10)

Political Prowess

Firstly, a huge congratulations to Bani. During Monday’s Whole School Collective Worship, Amanda Worne (the Chair of Yapton Parish Council) came back to announce that Bani’s design of the new parish logo had been chosen as the winning design.

As well as there being a little bit of local politics, the children were also able to think a little bit about politics on a national scale as some of our Year 3 and 4 children received something very special. Last term, the children in Arundel, Bodiam and Pevensey had been exploring issues regarding pollution in our seas and oceans and had written letters expressing their concerns to Alison Griffiths – the MP for Bognor and Littlehampton. Isla M, Evie K, Darcey H, Olivia M, Eva and Matthew received personal replies which had been posted to the school.

Conquering Cricketers

Mr Cox has been running a lunchtime Key Stage 2 girls’ cricket club. He writes: On Tuesday, 10 girls from across KS2 represented Yapton Primary School at a cricket afternoon. The afternoon involved playing games against other schools as well as developing skills through batting, catching and fielding drills. During the first game, the girls fielded excellently. On a number of occasions, Yapton managed to stump the batting team before the batter had any chance of returning! The teamwork on show was brilliant to watch. When Yapton took their turn to bat, they had to quickly adapt to how the ball bounced on the astroturf having played inside for the past few months. Soon after, it was 4s and 6s almost all the time! A great time was had by all in the beautiful April sunshine. Any child who wishes to take part in cricket outside of school can search for their local cricket on https://www.ecb.co.uk/play/dynamos-cricket.

Well done to Indi from Year 6, Poppy C, Poppy W and Maisie E from Year 5, Julia W, Isabelle, Peyton, Scarlett and Darcey H from Year 4 as well as Isla M from year 3 for wearing their Yapton Crowns so brilliantly! Thank you Mr Cox for running the club. Attached are a few photographs of the afternoon.

Dancing Delights

On Wednesday evening, it was the turn of our Key Stage 2 Dance Club to enjoy the limelight on the stage at the Pavilion Theatre, in Worthing as they took part in Dance House. This is a celebration of Dance where groups of children from a number of local primary and secondary schools perform their rehearsed routines. Our Dance Team had the honour (and the long wait) of closing the show when they danced to a song called ‘Waving Through A Window’ which is from the musical called ‘Dear Evan Hansen.’ This group of children also ensured their Yapton Crowns were firmly placed on their heads as they performed beautifully. Well done to Alex T, Andrea, Eva, Isabelle, Jasmine, Jenny, Jessica, Julia, Kaitlyn, Leo, Maisie S, Olivia W, Peyton, Poppy W, Reegan, Ruby W and Skye. Thank you to Mrs Cummings for running the club over the past few months.

The School Prayer for May

Attached is our new school prayer, now we are in the month of May. Thank you for Lexi M, Reegan, Oscar A, Liam K, Maisie S, Olivia M, Allanah, Letty, Bonnie F, Ruby L and Alyssia for their contributions.

As we at the beginning of May, don’t forget the school is closed on Bank Holiday Monday (5th May). Then towards the end of the month, Friday 23rd May is the date for our Country Dancing Festival, starting at 2pm, to which you are all invited. The playground and school hall are already bouncing along to the different tunes as all the classes are beginning to learn and practice their routines!

Have a lovely weekend.

Take care

Chris Hughes
