Weekly News For Families – 03.10.2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are already past the half way point of this first half of the autumn term! Where has the time gone?

FRIENDSHIP

The theme of friendship continued to be explored in our Whole School Worship at the beginning of the week. The children thought about the kinds of words and phrases they may include in a prayer to say thank you for our friends. The prayer based on all of their ideas is attached.

GENEROSITY

There is a verse in the Book of Proverbs that says, ‘The generous themselves will be blessed’ (22:9)

. In Tuesday’s Whole School Worship, Reverend Richard told the children a story about a farmer who had a plentiful harvest of corn. In fact, he had so much corn he filled his barns and still had lots left over. Instead of sharing what he had (because he had far too much than he needed), the farmer continued to build more barns. The children were encouraged to think about the farmer’s actions and what he could have done differently. Lots of children said he should have shared his corn – especially with those who didn’t have enough. Reverend Richard asked the children to reflect on the power of generosity and how this could benefit others.

PRAYER FOR OCTOBER

A new month brings a new school prayer. Thank you to Thea, Letty, Iyla, Lily-May, Isla, Jake, Bonnie, Freddy for their contributions and ideas which have been incorporated into our School Prayer for October. It is attached to this letter, if you would like to read and share it at home.

LEARNING PITSTOPS

Every time we reach the half way point of a term, we encourage the children to think about what they have learned so far. So today, in their morning meetings, the children shared what they now know, or what they can now do, since the beginning of the September. Here as some of our learning highlights…

Camber and Lewes – the children in our EYFS classes said:

  • we have learned about kind hands

  • we can now use our pinchy fingers to help us hold and grip things

  • we have leaned how to draw wriggly lines, dots, circles and castle line

  • we can match colours in Maths

  • we have learned how to make a pattern

  • we know we can see the leaves changing colour and falling off the trees in Autumn

  • we have learned the ‘s’ sound – we can say it and write it

  • we have leaned some song we sing in Worship

Amberley, Bramber and Hastings – the children in our Key Stage 1 classes said:

  • we have learned that some materials are absorbent and others are waterproof

  • we have learned that babies have water put ion their heads when they are baptised

  • we have learned about equal, more than and less than in Maths

  • we now know how to partition a 2-digit number into tens and ones

Arundel. Bodiam and Pevensey – the children in our Lower Key Stage 2 classes said:

  • we have been writing a diary entry and we know it is like writing a letter

  • we know how to use fronted adverbials in our writing

  • we have leaned how fossils are formed

  • we know about the three different types of rock – metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous

  • we know people in the Stone Age made tools from stone

  • we (Year 3s) have been learning about number lines from 0 – 1,000

  • we (Year 4s) know about addends, sums, minuends, subtrahends and differences

Cowdray, Portchester and Southsea – the children in our Upper Key Stage 2 classes said:

  • we have learned about Bible stories of Jesus had Good News in them and what it means for Christians

  • we (Year 5) have been learning how to use our number bonds to 10,000

  • we (Year 6) know that to find an unknown part, we need to add the know parts and then subtract from the whole

So much learning is ‘sticking’ which is great to see. Don’t forget you will have the chance to come and see what the children have been up to at Time To Shine after school on Friday 17th October.
