Weekly News For Families – 05.07.2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

Every week seems to be a busy one here at Yapton C. of E. Primary School, but this week has been even busier!

Tudor Day

Monday was our whole school Tudor Day. It was lovely to see so many of the children (and staff) come dressed ready for the day full of historical learning which included Mary Rose ship building, Tudor Rose collaging, weaving, working with Roman numerals, fact files about Henry VIII, the fates of Henry VIII’s wives, Tudor purses and Tudor houses. A special ‘Thank You’ goes to Miss Parsons – our History Leader – for planning such a brilliant day.

Year 3 and 4 and The Big Sing

On Tuesday morning, all of our Year 3 and 4 children in Arundel, Bodiam and Pevensey classes were joined by children from two other local primary schools to take part in the Big Sing. Everyone had a great morning learning some new songs as well as performing to each other under the guidance of Emily Barden, from the West Sussex Music Service. Here are some of the children’s reflections of the morning:

  • I enjoyed singing with the other schools and hearing everyone perform their songs. I learnt that songs don’t have to be loud and you can also sing quietly.

  • I learnt that when two parts are played or sung together, it’s called a harmony. I loved singing with the other schools.

  • I loved The Big Sing! The singing was amazing and I loved hearing everyone singing together. I even got to perform our song on the stage!

    Working Together

In Tuesday afternoon’s whole school collective worship, Rev. Richard encouraged us to think about how Jesus made sure he used other people in his work. He challenged us to be like Jesus in making sure we include other people to do good things. Long before Jesus was born, these words were written: “Two are better off than one, because together they can work more effectively.” Ecclesiastes 4:9.

    Prayer For July

During our collective worship times this week, we have begun using our new prayer for July. Thank you to Alfie S, Alfie H, Poppy W, Ruby L, Megan K, Bonnie F, Olivia D, Lexi M, Noah E, Alex M and Wojciech K for using some of their own time to create their own prayers which have all contributed to our new prayer which is attached for you to share at home.

    Transition Day

On Wednesday, our Year 6 children visited their new secondary schools. At the same time, we welcomed our new EYFS families to the school whilst everyone else spent the day getting to know their new September 2024 classes. The teachers planned the day carefully so that lots of fun was had by all. On Thursday, our Community Circles discussions were focused around two key questions:

  1. What did I enjoy about Transition Day?

  2. What am I looking forward to next year?

The House Captains recorded what everyone said and attached are some of the most common responses.

    Plant Sale

As part of their Science learning, the Year 3 and 4 children have recently been planting lots of seeds. They are going to hold a Plant Sale after school on Thursday 11th July. Plants will be priced from 50p and all proceeds will be going to the Aldingbourne Trust – a local organisation which supports people with learning difficulties. Attached is a poster adverting the event.
