Weekly News For Families – 06.02.25

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you to those who came to today’s Time To Shine after school.  I am sure you noticed that the children have been very busy over the past few weeks!

The Thread Of Hope

During Monday’s Whole School Worship, the children continued to reflect on the theme of ‘Hope’. You may have seen ‘Pudsey and the Thread of Hope’ on the television last year, or you may have bought the picture book that has been written by Tom Fletcher.  Through the words in the story and the lyrics of a song written by Tom Fletcher as well, the children thought about how they could be referred to as ‘resilience.’  We know that there may be bumps in our learning – but that is fine!  It’s how we get over them.

The Yapton Yes

These discussions led beautifully into The Yapton Yes – the phrase we are using to help us to build our levels of determination and resilience.  Following last month’s Community Circles, the children were very excited to see that they now have the chance to be awarded very shiny and sparkly ‘I used The Yapton Yes!’ stickers.  Class Teachers are on the look out for moments where children have shown high levels of resilience in the learning.  This is a fabulous example of our school  Christian value of Community and how strongly pupil voice is valued here at Yapton C. of E. Primary School.

High 5 Netball

On Wednesday, some children in Year 5 and 6 represented our school in a locality High 5 Netball competition.  Despite only beginning to learn the skills and rules of the game a few weeks ago, everyone had a brilliant time.  Mrs Martin said she was very proud of the team as they showed high levels of teamwork and encouragement.  A big well done and a special high-five to Poppy C, Arlo, Bani, Darcey, Alfie H, Isabelle, Poppy W, Julia and Nihal.

Bikeability

Some of our Year 6 children have taken part in their Bikeability Training this week.  They have received specialised training in how to ride their bikes safely on the roads.  Here are some of their reflections about their training:

  • I enjoyed being in a group outside of school
  • It is important to signal before turning on the roads
  • Cycling on the road was a bit scary to begin with
  • I liked practising the primary and secondary positions
  • It was nice working with people I don’t usually work with
  • I now feel more confident riding my bike on the roads

Team Yapton

It is that time of year where we are seeking out any ‘keen runners’ who would like to become part of ‘Team Yapton’ to take part in the Chichester Corporate Challenge – as series of three evening races around some of the streets of Chichester.  The course length is about 4.5km and the dates for the races are Wednesday 25th February, Wednesday 11th and Wednesday 25th March.  Further details about the events can be found here, along with information on how to register (please use the name ‘Yapton School’ on the online form).  Some members of staff will be part of the team and are looking forward to being joined by some more runners.

Have a lovely weekend as we look forward to rounding of this half term next week, with lots more exciting learning, as well as the Inter-House Geography Challenge.

Take care

Kim Huggett
