Weekly News For Families – 09.05.2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

A shorter week at school hasn’t limited the learning here at Yapton C. of E. Primary School.

Down on the farm

On Wednesday, the Early Years children had a fabulous day at Goodwood Farm. They leaned so much about a working farm and loved to see and hear what was going on. This is a selection of things they learnt:

  • Cows have udders

  • The cows have special machines to milk them

  • The silo holds the food for the cows

  • Cows eat silage

  • Cows provide meat called beef

  • The sheep’s fleeces can be used to make wool and clothes

The children particularly enjoyed seeing the young calves and lambs, although the highlight for some of them was the ride on the coach!

    Outdoor Learning Day

Everyone enjoyed taking their learning outside yesterday. There were a wide range of activities going on and every class enjoyed the chance to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate in our school forest. Here are some reflections from the day:

  • We loved our cosy reading time outside

  • We used chalk to draw the maths

  • We used hoops on the playground to make equal groups

  • I liked being outside and around and nature

  • I enjoyed the estimation challenge filling large containers with water

  • We made Wallace and Gromit characters using natural resources

  • Miss Wieck’s times tables task was challenging, but fun!

  • It was relaxing being able to write outside

  • We linked our learning about angles with a points of a compass game

  • I enjoyed creating symbols of the Holy Trinity using natural resources

  • Spending time in the forest with cups of hot chocolate help use to relax

    Ancient Egyptian Workshop

Our Year 3 and 4 children have also enjoyed an online Ancient Egyptian Workshop led by the British Museum. Building on the learning from last term, they children found out so much more. Here are some snippets from the workshop:

  • Ancient Egyptians loved cats – they even had cat cemeteries!

  • They used 4 different canopic jars to store human organs

  • There were 3 languages written on The Rosetta Stone

  • Egyptians who were not rich were buried in the sand

  • The Romans copied some of the mummy masks

  • I can’t believe their are 8 million artefacts in the British Museum

  • There is so much more to discover in Egypt…

    VE Day

The school paused for a minute’s silence to commemorate VE Day yesterday. We will use our Whole School Collective Worship on Monday to reflect on the significance of this historic occasion.

Understanding Your Child’s Behaviour – A FREE COURSE

We are very lucky to have be given an amazing opportunity for our parents to take part in a FREE Understanding Your Child’s Behaviour Course. This will be delivered by Craig Barton, our Dedicated School Family Link Worker from the Arun Early Help Hub. Please read attached leaflet for all information regarding the sessions. If this is something you would be interested in taking part in, then please email office@yaptonschool.org by Wednesday 4th June so we can get you booked on.

    Enjoying the sun

Now that the sunshine is that bit warmer, please can you ensure you child comes to school with a water bottle, so that they can remain hydrated during the day. A sun hat would also be useful, along with sun cream being applied before coming to school.

    Have a lovely weekend.

    Take care
