Dear Parents and Carers,
Our first full week of this academic year has definitely been a busy one. Already there has been so much learning taking place. The week was kicked off with potion making, fire starting, woolly mammoth washing as well as the designing of villages and sword handles from Anglo-Saxon times.
THE YAPTON YES
At the very beginning of term, the children were encouraged to think about how they could build their resilience. In Monday’s Whole School Collective Worship, they shared their ideas which they had discussed in their class morning meetings. There were lots of brilliant ideas and the most common ones are shared on the attached ‘The Yapton Yes!’ poster. This will be in every classroom and we will continue to develop our understanding of and skills in using the powers of resilience to help us overcome any difficulties we may face.
LIVING LIFE IN ALL ITS FULLNESS
As you know, our school vision is built around the verse from St. John’s gospel: ‘I have come in order you might have life – life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10). One of the ways we interpret this verse to be the best version of yourself. During Tuesday’s Whole School Collective Worship, the children were able to remember all of the different ways they can help themselves to be their best versions as well as keeping themselves safe:
Before we say or do something, we can use our THINKvalues: Is it TRUTHFUL? Is it NECESSARY? Is it INSPIRING? Is it NECESSARY? Is it KIND?
There are a few times when things don’t go the right way between children. The school grown-up dealing with the problem will get those involved together and use TALK. They will ask the the children to: TELLme what happened; ARE you hurt?; LET’Swork it out together; and then ensure the children KNOWthat it has been sorted out.
If the children feel they are being hurt more than once ( Several Times On Purpose), they know they can use STOP. The need to Start Telling Other P
eople so that the issue can be dealt with.
HOUSE AND SPORTS CAPTAINS ELECTIONS
In our first Community Circles of the term, the children elected their House and Sports Captains. Thirty-five Year 6 children stood for election and gave their speeches before the votes were cast. Well done to all of the candidates – many of whom said that it was quite scary to stand up in front of and talk to about seventy children. Congratulations to those who were elected:
St. Andrew’s House Captains: Skye and Kaitlyn | St. Andrew’s Sports Captains: Maisie E and Oliver S
St. David’s House Captains: Oliver L and Alex | St. David’s Sports Captains: Mila and Leo

HARVEST FESTIVAL CELEBRATIONS AND DONATIONS
It may still feel like the beginning of term, but our first visit to St. Mary’s Church to celebrate Harvest is on Thursday 25th September. The EYFS and Key Stage 1 service will be at 9:30am and the Key Stage 2 service will be at 10:30am. Look out for sign up sheets or boards for you to sign up to offer some help walking the children to and from the church over the next few days.
It is an annual tradition to support the Bognor Regis Foodbank at this time of year. Attached are details of their 2025 Harvest Appeal. We would welcome any donations of non-perishable food that can be stored in a cupboard. These can be brought into school from Monday 22nd September. In previous years, our school families have been incredibly generous – so let’s see what happens this year…?
SCHOOL SHOES AND TRAINERS
Please can we remind you that we expect the children to wear plain black black shoes or trainers as part of their school uniform.
Have a lovely weekend.
Take care
