Dear Parents and Carers,
This week has provided the children to reflect on a number of different things.
Kindness
On Monday, during our Whole School Collective Worship, the children thought about ‘What is Kindness?’ A dictionary definition of this is, ‘The quality of being friendly, generous and considerate.’ Kindness was explored through a book called ‘Kind’ which gave many different examples of how we can all be kind to each other. We were all able to celebrate World Kindness Day on Thursday, when it was lovely to see so many children and adults dressed in different shades yellow for this special day.
Remembrance
The whole school community came together on Tuesday, which was Armistice Day. Everyone gathered at the front of the school, with our poppy display being the focus of attention. As Reverend Richard led our Act of Remembrance, the children were able to reflect on the sacrifices made by those during times of conflict. Once Richard had used the traditional words of remembrance, the 2-minute silence was observed impeccably by everyone. Attached area couple of pictures of our poppy display which was made from all the plastic bottles that were brought into school.
Keeping Safe
On Thursday, the children met in their Community Circles. They reflected on how the school keeps them safe. There were lots of examples given, such as:
our Go-2-Grown-Ups
the Learning Ladders in our classrooms
knowing about and using ‘STOP’ (the school’s anti-bullying word which stands for ‘Several Times On Purpose’ and ‘Start Telling Other People)
the TALK process school grown-ups use to help us sort things out when things go wrong
using our THINK values
being with our friends
adults in school wearing their lanyards and badges
the supportive staff
our First Aiders
The children were also challenged to consider what the school could do even better to help them feel safe. These will be looked at by the Senior Leadership Team, to identify and then put into place any further actions.
Food Bank Thanks
Following the collection of all the donations that were made a few weeks ago as part of our Harvest Celebrations, we have received a message of thanks from the Bognor Regis Foodbank. Over 160kg of food was donated. According to the internet, that’s about a heavy as a fully grown male reindeer!
Bugs, Germs and Illness
The recent sustained mild weather seems to have encouraged bugs and germs to spread around the school. As well as children falling ill, the staff are beginning to be affected. If your child’s teacher is unable to come to school, we will are normally able to find supply cover. However, if rare occurrences when cover is not available, the children in the affected class would be split into smaller groups and continue their learning in another classroom. Up to date planning files are kept up to date in each classroom to ensure the learning will not be disrupted.
Headlice
Last week’s request for parents and carers to check their children’s heads for these unwanted visitors is turning into a plea! We have been made aware of some more cases of headlice. Please continue to check you children’s hair and use the appropriate treatment if needed.
Have a lovely weekend.
Take care
