WEEKLY NEWS FOR FAMILIES 24.10.24

Dear Parents and Carers,

EXCITING BABY NEWS

We are so excited that the newest member of our Yapton family has arrived this week. Baby Elsie Maeve was born at the weekend. Miss Hook and her partner Luke are thrilled to be a family of three now. We collected items for a ‘baby hamper’ for Miss Hook before she went on her maternity leave and each class wrote a special THINK value award for her as she looked forward to becoming a mum.

THE GREAT YAPTON BAKE OFF

We launched our exciting week on Monday morning when the whole school came together for Miss Costello to give all of the bakers their instructions! The bakers were shown clips from the TV show and then set off with three and a half days to create their ‘Class Showstopper’. As the week progressed, the competitive spirit amongst the children (but mostly the staff) has resulted in classroom doors being shut to stop designs being seen, children being asked about their baking by teachers from another class (to which their response has been silence), the judges being asked their favourite flavourings and threats to turn ovens and fridges off!! There has been a fantastic atmosphere within the school this week. In the absence of Paul Hollywood and Pru Leith, Mr Hughes and I had to step in to be the judges this afternoon.

The winners were:

  • Early Years and Key Stage 1 Design: Amberley Class

  • Early Years and Key Stage 1 Showstopper: Lewes Class

  • Key Stage 2 Design: Bodiam Class

  • Key Stage 2 Showstopper: Arundel Class

Attached are some photos of the different very creative and colourful (and delicious) showstopper cakes. Our Bake Off week is another example of how our school vision of ‘Life In All Its Fulness’

shines through. Well done to everyone who has contributed to a brilliant end of the first half term of the school year.

SCHOOL TOURS FOR EYFS SEPTEMBER 2025

We had a busy weekend last weekend when we welcomed families to view our school. All of our visiting families commented on the bright classroom environments, the high standard of work both in the books and displayed around the school and the warm and friendly environment and ethos. We are certainly proud of our school and it is lovely to hear such positive feedback from our visitors. Thank you to our whole school family. A special ‘thank-you’ must go to our amazing year 6 children who came on Saturday morning to help with the tours and to talk to the families about our school.
