Dear Parents and Carers,
As you know, our PSHE curriculum is delivered through a scheme called JIGSAW. Every half term, the learning is based around a singular theme. This half term the theme is ‘Relationships’ which delivers the statutory requirement of the Relationships Education, Health Education and Sex Education (RHSE) objectives within the PHSE curriculum.
Even though many of our children are in mixed-aged classes, they are split into discrete year groups for the teaching of this subject.
In Year 4, the children have been exploring the ideas of loss. This includes loosing something important, a friend/family member moving away, changing schools or moving house. Alongside these ideas the children will also be exploring grief. This may include talking about when a pet dies, a family member passing away and loosing a special object. The children will be thinking about their emotions and feelings such as denial, anger, sadness, pain and depression.
The children may want to talk to you about this at home and if you have any other questions about it please speak to your child’s class teacher.
Thank you
Miss Chuter
