Weekly News For Families – 26.01.24

Dear Parents and Carers,

Another busy week has flown by!

When the children gathered for Worship on Monday, they explored the many different ways they are unique. There is a verse of praise in the Bible that says, ‘God you made me; you created me.’ Psalm 119. This idea of individuality and the difference we make as individuals was explored further through the story called ‘Only One You.’ You can click here

to share the story at home.

EYFS BIKEABILITY

Throughout the week, the children in Camber and Lewes Class have had a brilliant time with the Bikeability Instructors from West Sussex County Council. It has been fantastic to see the children’s confidence and skills on the balance bikes develop and grow. Here is what some of the children have said about their Bikeability experience:

  • I really enjoyed playing ‘What’s the Time Mr. Wolf?’ on the bikes.

  • We learnt how to do gliding on the bikes.

  • The bike riding was really fun. I was riding very really fast.

Not only did the children have lots of fun, but the instructors did too! They were very keen to say how well all the EYFS children were engaged in the different activities as well as being brilliant listeners and learners. Well done to our youngest children!

YEAR 5 AND 6 CROSS COUNTRY RUNNERS

Another massive ‘Well Done!‘ needs the be given to our School Running Team who took part in the West Sussex Area Cross Country Event at Bishop Luffa School, in Chichester, on Wednesday. Alexus, Indi, Olivia, Cierra, Lilli, Bethany, Archie, Evan, Luca, Harvey, Zack and Freddy represented our school brilliantly. Some of the team even helped and encouraged children for other schools around the course. Congratulations to Lilli, who managed to quality for the County Finals which will be taking place in March.

The children in our Running Club are now preparing for the Chichester Corporate Challenge – a series of 3 races in Chichester in February and March. This event comprises of both primary and secondary schools’ races as well as races for the grown-ups! Last year, a ‘Corporate Yapton School Team’ made up of staff and parents took part. We are planning to do this again this year. The dates for this years races are the 28th February and the 13th and 27th March (all Wednesdays). If you are interest in taking part, please have a look here

for further details. To confirm your participation, please can you use the office2@yaptonschool.org email address by Wednesday 7th February.

NEW ‘GRASS’ ON THE KEY STAGE 2 TRIM TRAIL.

You may have spotted great improvements have been made to the Key Stage 2 Trim Trail on the upper playground. Children in Years 3,4, 5 and 6 have begun enjoying using this space today. Please can we remind you that as tempting it does look, we would ask you to make sure your children do not play on this equipment and the Trim Trail that is outside Lewes and Camber Class during the drop off and pick up times of each day. Children are, of course, supervised on the equipment during the school day. There are clear signs that indicate this.

    MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS DURING SCHOOL HOURS

If your child needs to have a medical appointment (e.g. doctor/dentist/optician) during school hours, please inform the school office with evidence of the appointment. This will allow the absence to be recorded as a medical reason rather than it being classified as unauthorised. Additionally, when you child’s absence is due to illness, please can you specify the illness, rather than just stating ‘unwell,’ when contacting the school office. We thank you for your cooperation with these matters.

    WRAP AROUND CARE SURVEY

You may be aware it is the Government’s aim for all schools to be able to offer Wrap Around Care by September 2026. Our Emerald Explorers Club offers this before and after school. The local authority are seeking parents’ and carers’ thoughts about the Government’s initiative. Please use this link to complete a short survey (which should not take more than 10 minutes to complete). The closing date for this is Friday 2nd February.

TIME TO SHINE

Here’s a quick reminder that our next Time To Shine is after school on Friday 2nd February. The children will be very keen to share the learning from this half term they are most proud of with you.

Have a lovely weekend.

Take care

Chris Hughes
